Development Phase 3

Replacement Training building and shower and toilet block – Development Phase 3

We are so lucky to have our two brand new residential buildings, one of which won the award of ‘Norman Foster Community Building of the Year’ in 2019.  Both buildings have the highest quality specifications, including an air heat pump and passive ventilation to keep our running costs as low as possible.  We love our buildings and young people and adults alike tell us they provide 5* accommodation.

Now it’s time to provide our campers and outdoor activity teams the same high-quality facilities.  It is the final phase in futureproofing our campsites and activity centre.

We have completed an options appraisal that demonstrated that replacement of  the toilet blocks and the old training and storage building (The Lodge) with new modern facilities that have disabled access and are fit for purpose, will prove financially better value than continuing to plough money into buildings that are well past their sell by date in terms of facilities and condition.

We raised the £2.2m, which Phases 1 and 2 cost, entirely through the fundraising efforts of our volunteer team.  We launched our new fundraising campaign for phase 3 in January 2026 and are continuing to fundraise to pay for two replacement toilet and shower blocks together with a new training room, office and kitchen (The Lodge), all of which will have full disabled access.

Estimated Costs:

Toilet blocks £215,000. Lodge £750k.

Total approximately: £965,000

Thanks to the Earl of Chester Fund for their kind donation of £10,000.

Girlguiding Cheshire Forest has approximately 4,000 members, 600 of whom are adult volunteers.  We estimate that more than 3,000 young people had the benefit of visiting the site last year. In 2025, over 600 Brownies and Rainbows  participated in ‘Winter Wonderland’ at the site. Girlguiding groups from all over the country have visited us and we hire out the site to other organisations, such as the Forest Schools Movement.

Pettypool is our much-loved home in the heart of the Cheshire countryside and we want to complete our facilities to take us forward into the future as well as open up our centre for the benefit of other local community groups to use so that it becomes a real local community resource.

The floor plans below are for the two proposed shower and toilet blocks.

One by the site entrance (for use by campers on Butler site and general use).

One on Badger campsite (accessible also for Olave Field and Rainbow Ark users).

The videos below are an artist’s impression of how the toilet / shower blocks could look, as well as the replacement Lodge building.
