History

In 1987

A pre-fabricated building had been erected that provided sleeping accommodation for 24 girls and their leaders and included a kitchen and a dining room.

Over the next 15 years…

After more land was made available, the original Lodge was added to, to create a larger kitchen and dining area as well as a shower room and leader’s sitting room, a brick built office was also added.

Buildings were added to the campsites, including two toilet blocks, a large outdoor shelter, a Rainbow ‘Ark’ for shelter in wet weather and a depot to provide uniform and other official items.

All this work was completed in stages as funding became available, on a very ad hoc basis, creating a residential building that is now showing its lack of planning.

Now…

It does not conform to the Disability Discrimination Act; its prefabricated nature makes it inefficient to heat and causes much condensation to occur.

The dormitory and leaders’ rooms are really too small and the kitchen, although recently refurbished, is not really big enough to allow girls access, under supervision, to participate in the cooking and washing.

The depot is housed in a wood outbuilding which is damp and prone to rodent infestations and the ‘Ranger Den’ (once a demountable doctor’s surgery) has no toilet facilities and needs its roof replacing.
